I am constantly inspired by the work of wedding professionals.  Their talent, passion and sheer joy for what they do is always so evident in the beautiful creations they produce.  Today, I want to take a moment to share the incredible work of one of my absolute Insta-faves, the lovely Sarah Min of DeLight Floral Design.  Every single time I see Sarah’s work, I find myself in complete awe of the unique way in which she combines the prettiest of blooms to create the most charming bouquets and centerpieces.  You can tell she pours a whole lot of love into each one of her designs.

CAN YOU GIVE US A LITTLE INSIGHT INTO YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS? WHAT GOES INTO WORKING WITH YOUR CLIENTS TO CREATE THE PERFECT DESIGN FOR THEIR EVENT?

SM: Before I do anything, I have to get to know my brides and what their style is. As a designer, it is essential for me to listen to my clients and give them what they want.  Even after one conversation with them, I can get a sense of their personality (individually and as a couple) and gauge what they like and dislike.  After the groundwork is all laid out, the most important thing is choosing the right colour palette.  Then I select the flowers that best reflect their style and overall wedding concept in the hopes of creating the wedding of their dreams.

WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE PART ABOUT WORKING WITH WEDDING CLIENTS SPECIFICALLY?

SM: As a creative designer, the best feeling is when people really love your designs! It is especially rewarding coming from brides because you know that most of them have been dreaming of this day since they were young. So when a bride comes into a meeting set on a concept or theme then changes her mind after seeing my designs, I know that I am doing a good job with my work.

AS TEMPERATURES DROP, WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR FAVORITE FLOWERS TO WORK WITH AS WE TRANSITION INTO COOLER WEATHER?

SM: I actually love the floral scene in the winter!  Think Chronicles of Narnia – the silvers, the shiny, the faux flowers, the pine cones! It is just as nice as fresh spring florals.

WHAT ARE YOUR TOP THREE FAVORITE FLOWERS TO HAVE IN YOUR HOME?

SM: Garden roses, hydrangeas, and peonies. They all have longevity and a wonderful aroma. And not to mention, they are fan favourites.

AND JUST FOR FUN…WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WEDDING MOVIE?

SM: The Wedding Planner with Jennifer Lopez. Typical, I know, but J. Lo really played that role with such poise and class – the kind of professional aura that every wedding planner wants to embody. It was always my dream to be in the events/wedding industry and I am so thankful that it has actually come true!

Happy Monday friends!  It is a new week and to kick things off, I wanted to introduce you to the incredibly talented and lovely Ashley & Malone, the creative design dream-team I had the absolute pleasure of working with to develop Love Eva.  Read on for a little behind-the-scenes look at the process, as well as a Q&A with Ashley, she offers some great branding advice and shares some of her favorite design inspiration.

When I first started to dream up Love Eva, I searched high and low for that special someone that could bring my ideas to life.  I had never gone through the process of creating a brand, so I needed guidance.  One day, while scrolling through my Instagram feed, I came across Ashley & Malone and boom, I had found exactly what I was looking for.  I sent Ashley a note and the next day we were setting up a time to chat.  I loved how personable and genuinely excited she was to find out about my background, goals for the future, what I wanted to accomplish, etc.  At long last, I had found a perfect match!

In order to get things going, one of the first things I had to do was fill out a super fun questionnaire that really got me thinking about my goals and the little details that would make Love Eva special – from favorite colors to people that inspire me and everything in between.  Ashley took all of that information and created this gorgeous little moodboard that perfectly captured the essence of what I was going after.

Love-Deva-MoodBoard So fun, right?!  I was smitten and that was just the beginning.  The process moved smoothly along from moodboard, to font selection, to finalizing colours, logo concepts and business card design – I loved how collaborative every step was.  Ashley was so patient and answered every question I had, she took any feedback and either incorporated it or made even better suggestions, and in the end, gave me a product that I am in love with and feel so proud of.

Ok, ok, enough about me!  Without further ado, here is a fun, little Q &A with the lovely Ashley.  Enjoy!

WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT WORKING WITH CREATIVES?

I would definitely say their passion! Part of the reason I created Ashley & Malone was so that I could create with other like-minded business owners. I wanted to work with business owners who were passionate about their business and wanted to invest  in making their dreams come true. I find the strongest branding results happen when the owners are really involved in the creative process and know what they want! Obviously, we are still here to guide them in the right direction.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO SOMEONE LOOKING TO START THE PROCESS OF CREATING A BRAND?

Most start up businesses don’t have a huge budget and we totally get that. In my opinion, the best place to start is by researching or better yet, a little homework! Ask yourself key questions that will help guide you through the process; Who is your dream client? Where are their quirks? What are your business goals?. They key is to continually look back on these answers throughout your branding journey. Ask yourself, does my branding help attract that said dream client? If it doesn’t, you head back to the drawing board.

Another helpful tool is to create an inspiration moodboard. Collect images from Pinterest or magazines (so old school, but still helpful) and gather them to help create the mood for your brand. Select images with lettering, printed materials and a cohesive colour scheme to really hone in on your overall vision for your brand.

WHAT DO YOU LOVE THE MOST ABOUT WORKING WITH YOUR HUSBAND DALLAS (MALONE)?

Funny enough, I’ve never been asked this question before! I love how he can just take a task I give him and make it come to life! He’s quick, understanding and amazing at what he does. If you’ve ever seen the backend coding of a website, you understand that it takes someone who is patient to get it right. Dallas is just that! It’s great to just sit on the couch on the evening with a deadline looming….both on our computers and working together to accomplish the same goal.  While it’s still work, it’s better with the one you love.

WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE DESIGN BLOGS?

Uppercase, Design Love Fest…..I also love Pinterest for inspiration!

ARE THERE ANY DESIGN, BUSINESS OR INSPIRATIONAL BOOKS THAT YOU WOULD RECOMMEND?

I love any Seth Godin book about marketing. As well, my father is a book collector, so I have about every Graphic Design book ever made! My favourites are: Graphic Design Thinking: Beyond Brainstorming by Ellen Lupton and Design Currency by Jenn and Ken Visocky O-Grady.

DO YOU HAVE A FAVORITE QUOTE?

The honest truth is I’m not much of a quote girl, but I found this quote on Pinterest and as cheesy as it is, I love it!

“So, I love you because the entire universe conspired to help me find you” – Paulo Coelho.

I completely feel this way about how Dallas and I found each other 🙂 Cue the love music!

Thank you so much Ashley, for taking the time to share a little bit of yourself with us!

And friends, if any of you are looking for someone to turn your sparkly and pretty ideas into a beautiful and functional reality – this team might just be the one for you.  For more inspiration and to keep up with Ashley & Malone, follow them here, here and here.

Wishing you a happy and productive week! XO
