“Dogs are our link to paradise. They don’t know evil or jealousy or discontent. To sit with a dog on a hillside on a glorious afternoon is to be back in Eden, where doing nothing was not boring–it was peace.”  Milan Kundera

Today is a very special day.  Six years ago today, in a sleepy town near Stratford, ON, a little Yorkshire terrier was born.  I didn’t know him yet, but I believe our hearts were already connected.  I had always wanted to have a “dog”, and I use quotation marks because my idea of having a dog was completely different from the reality of it, but in the best way possible.  I thought “Oh, wouldn’t it be fun?  I could take him for walks and stuff.”  It seems so silly, but I really had no idea about the kind of impact this little eight-pounder would have in my life.

In the last six years, my little Bailey Marley has taught me some really beautiful lessons about life.  And that’s the thing about dogs…they teach you, if you’re willing to listen to their little wordless wisdom.

I’ve learned that these little creatures were put on this earth to love unconditionally, share kisses and happiness and heal hearts like it’s nobody’s business.  They’re little love soldiers.  I could go on and on, and on and on, but without further ado, here are a few things (in no particular order) that I have learned from being a puppy mama.

Get excited about a new day – no matter what the weather.

On the coldest day or the sunniest day, Bailey Marley wakes up and is excited!! It’s a new day, there are kibbles to eat, stuff to sniff, people to greet and treats to enjoy.  Be grateful and live it up…everyday!

Savor treats…and moments.

It gives me such joy to give Bailey his favorite treats.  This little guy sure knows how to savor and truly enjoy the moment.  He doesn’t just munch standing up, but rather runs over to his favorite plush spot, sits down and enjoys every bite.

The world is a big, beautiful playground.

Adventure is everywhere.  Friends are everywhere.  Smiles are everywhere.  Go out into the world and discover as much as possible.

Naps are the best thing.  Like, ever.

Bailey Marley naps like a boss.  He likes cozy blankets, little nooks and I swear if he could, he would sip a cup of warm chamomile tea before his naps.

Walk, and then walk some more.

Pretty straightforward.  Long walks are good for the soul, they help you clear your mind and gain perspective.

Give people a chance, but trust your instincts.

Although Bailey Marley will greet pretty much anyone that crosses his path, there have been times when he will not and there is no way I can convince him to.  And you know what…I trust him completely.  There are times in life when energies just don’t vibe, and it is best to respectfully walk away.

So there you have it.  Life lessons from one of the sweetest creatures the world has ever seen.

Do you have a little furry friend?  I’d love to know of any lessons you have learned along the way.

Thank you for stopping by today.  I wish you a happy and lovely day! xoxo
